Everyone can be a poet on Valentine’s Day

Inspire your life with poetic apartments on U Street in DC

With a name like Sonnet, we appreciate not only the aesthetic beauty of our apartments, but we also appreciate the way a poem can take words on a page and stir emotions. This Valentine’s Day is the perfect time to spread your wings and try some wordsmithing.

There are so many styles of poems to experiment with, from a simple haiku (3 lines of 5, 7, 5 syllables):

Sonnet is my home
Relaxation fills me up
I am contented

To a jaunty limerick (AABBA rhyme scheme):

There once was a man on 14th and U
Who wanted to live somewhere new
He toured Sonnet so fleetly
And found it fit him quite neatly
This poem might just be about you.

Or maybe even a Sonnet sonnet (14 lines of 10 syllables):

My dear Sonnet, you inspire me to write.
How I love the way you calm me so,
Invading my mind day and through the night,
Always dreaming about the fine kitchens.

Let me compare you to another home,
You are more vibrant, spacious and active.
Ice bites the debris of February,
And wintertime has its own special feel.

How do I love you? Let me count the ways.
I love your gracious bedroom and kitchen.
Thinking of your location fills my days.
My love, my apartment haven, my home.

Now I must away with an open heart,
Remember my big words whilst we’re apart.

We hope this little experiment has awakened your inner Shakespeare. Schedule a tour of our DC apartments on U Street today and maybe you’ll be inspired to write a poem of your own.
